Developing An English For Specific Purposes Course In The Field Of Oil Industry
Résumé: The present research is an attempt to identify the reasons lying behind the problems encountered by translators when dealing with technical material in the field of Oil Industry. These reasons might be related to the teaching of English during the graduation years i.e. the syllabus content, the teaching methods or the kind of English taught to the translation students; or they simply might be of another nature such as the ways students are prepared for such a task. This research comprises both theoretical and practical aspects relating to this topic. The theoretical part is an attempt to define the major concepts such as English for specific Purposes, Needs Analysis as a pillar of ESP, LearnerCenteredness and a number of other main concepts relating to ESP. The practical part comprises a field work containing a description of the present situation of teaching English in the Department of Translation and Interpreting along with two questionnaires; the first was distributed to the teachers of English and of translation from/to English and the second one distributed to final year students in the same department. Based on the above, our research is composed of an introduction, three chapters and a final part containing a general conclusion followed by recommendations.
