Place De L'imagerie Dans La Prise En Charge Des Tumeurs Cardiaques
Résumé: Introduction: Cardiac tumors are rare but the surgery remains the most used strategy when expecting good results. Imaging approach is necessary to help surgeon to distinguish benign from malignant tumors (primary and secondary), but also from tumor-like conditions (cardiac cyst, thrombus, vegetation...). Method: We retrospectively analyzed data of patients who underwent surgical resection of cardiac tumors in a monocentric Algerian cardiac surgery hospital, in the aim to study imaging features before surgery. Result: 162 recorders were collected. Mean age of patients were 46 years with 89 women and 73 men. Echocardiography was the first diagnostic approach when suspecting a cardiac tumor. Mutimodality imaging using Computed Tomography (CT); Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and Positron Emission Tomgraphy (PET- CT) were complementary when suspecting malignancy, or in case of embolic complication. Benign tumors were found in 124 cases (77%) with most commonly myxoma. Whereas, malignant tumors were found in 23% of patients with most commonly sarcomas. Conclusion: The diagnosis of cardiac tumors could be challenged by clinical and radiological polymorphism. Echocardiography remains the first diagnostic approach. Multimodality imaging helps the etiological diagnosis, but the confirmation remains the histological study.
