Matching Learner Personality Trait With Preferred Type Of Learning Activity
Résumé: The current study attempts to investigate the relationship between learners’ personality traits, mainly extraversion and introversion, and their preferred type of learning activities. Within the context of this study, two research questions are raised: (1) How would the participants cluster in terms of their personality type? (2) Is there a relation between the generated personality clusters and learners’ preferred learning activities? Based on the research questions, a hypothesis is set: there is a significant association between learners’ personality type and their preferred type of learning activities. To reach the aims of the study, answer the research questions, and test the hypothesis, a questionnaire is administered to a hundred Master 1 students of English from the Department of Foreign Languages at Mila University Centre. The collected data is analysed using hierarchical cluster analysis and Chi-square test, conducted through the SPSS software (version 26). The major findings reveal an identification of three distinct personality types among the participants. The findings also partly suggest a significant association between personality traits and some learning activities, although the relationship is not always directly related to learners' activity preferences. Ultimately, the research work imparts an assortment of limitation, implications, and recommendations for pedagogy and further research.
