Investigating The Relationship Between Extraversion/introversion And Efl Learners' Achievement In Written Tests
Résumé: Like many other personality traits, the Extraversion/Introversion variable has been investigated in the domain of language learning, specifically, second language acquisition. However, little interest was given to explore the relationship between this personality trait and EFL learners' achievement in tests. The current study was conducted to provide a better understanding of the Extraversion/Introversion and its importance in the process of learning a foreign language. The prime aim of the research was to discover the relationship, if any, between this personality dimension and the EFL learners' achievement in written tests. To investigate this relationship a correlational research design was used. The study took place at Ahmed Lakhdhar Boukherouba secondary school in Oum El Bouaghi, involving 46 third year students as participants. The relevant data was collected in three steps. First, the researcher administered the Eysenck Personality Inventory as a reliable instrument to determine the personality type of each subject. The next step was collecting the lists of the students and their marks in the written tests of the two terms. The results showed that there is no relationship between extraversion/introversion personality types and EFL learners' written tests. That is to say, the students' personality does not seem to influence their scoring in English written tests.
