ABSTRACT: The United Nations and the Government of Sierra Leone agreed to establish a mechanism to complement the judicial activities of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, called the International Residual Mechanism for the Conduct of theInternational Court of Sierra Leone, to carry out a number of essential functions of the International Tribunal for Sierra Leone after its closure due to the length of the trial period, including the trial of fugitives from justice who are among the The most senior commanders suspected of bearing the greatest responsibility for international crimes, and the Mechanism, in accordance with its mandate, assumes responsibility for many of the functions of the International Tribunal for Sierra Leone, including in relation to a range of judicial activities, enforcement of judgments, and the power to prosecute the remaining fugitives and accused before the Special Court if it is not completed.
