Translation As Cultural Espionage; Can Texts Transmit The Secrets Of Nations?

Résumé: This paper explores the role of translation as a form of cultural espionage, examining how translated texts can transmit hidden cultural or political messages. Drawing on theoretical frameworks by Venuti and Said, as well as historical examples from World War II & colonial contexts, the study investigates the dual nature of translated texts as both conveyors of surface meaning & vehicles for hidden agendas. The paper also addresses the ethical implications of translation practices and their impact on cultural identity and global relations. Findings suggest that translation is not merely a linguistic act but a powerful tool for cultural & political manipulation, raising important questions about the ethical responsibilities of translators.
