Translation Of Algerian Arabic Idioms Into English: Analytic Study Of " وقائع سنين الجمر ” Movie Directed By Mohamed Al Akhder Hamina
Résumé: This research aims to investigate how we translate idiomatic expression from Algerian Arabic into English in the film « Chronicleof the years of fire », by using Fernando’sand Hajaj and Kherma’sclassification of idioms as well as Baker’s Strategies of translating idioms. The objective of this study is tooutline the main challenges faced by translators while translating Algerian Arabic idioms into English. The study examines fifteen (15) idioms that appeared in the film. The finding reveals that 47% of the chosen idioms are translated using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form strategy ,33% are translated by using translation by paraphrase ,while 13% are translated by omission and 7%by using idiom of similar meaning and similar form . Finally the analysis demonstrates that the most adopted strategies to translate Algerian Arabic idioms are using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form and translation by paraphrase.
