Language Variation And Change : A Case Study In Sidi Bel Abbes Urban Context
Résumé: Linguistic diversity in multilingual shows that no Linguistic/system is homogeneous in a speech community. A case in point is the dialect spoken in the urban context of Sidi Bel Abbes (hence after SBA). This dialect has changed in many ways, apparently adapting features of the language varieties with which it has been in contact. Diachronic changes and synchronic variations make up the topic of our research. Our scope is to explore some changes in the Algerian Arabic used today in SBA to show the effects of foreign languages like French and Spanish, and some Algerian Arabic varieties on this linguistic system; in other words, we will attempt to examine the linguistic traces of past historical contacts. The main aim in examining the language variety spoken in SBA speech community (as a case study) is to shed some light on the linguistic differences such as phonological, morphological and Lexical features which arise in the uses of individual speakers. These linguistic characteristics are related to non-linguistic factors, or the so called socio-demographic variables which are age and gender. To explore these differences, one should pay attention to loanwords, to how these relate to the non-linguistic variables mentioned above.
