Unveiling Hidden Ideologies In Korean Series And Their Impacts On The Algerian Youth

Résumé: The Korean wave, also known as Hallyu, has become a globally recognized phenomenon due to the exportation of Korean culture. The Korean wave encompasses music, K-drama, fashion, and cosmetics. However, this dissertation will focus solely on Korean drama or series. The overwhelming growth of the Korean television series had a significant impact on people around the world. Hence, this research aims to uncover the underlying ideologies as well as to determine their effect on the Algerian youth. The current research adopted Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional models of CDA to analyze some clips from the two series “The One and Only” and “The Glory”. In addition, the study used Roland Barthes' semiotic theory for the analysis of the posters. The research followed the qualitative approach with a little focus on the quantitative approach. The data was collected from various sources including books, e-books, articles, series posters, previous dissertations, and a questionnaire given to both genders aged between (18 and 30). The findings were illustrated in the form of pie charts and paragraphs to spot out ideologies, alongside their influence on the Algerian youngsters. The analysis of the data confirmed the hypothesis of the dissertation which states that the Korean series contain hidden ideologies and young Algerians are highly influenced by them.
