Determinants Of Food Security In Algeria: An Econometric And Analytical Study Of Socioeconomic Dimensions (2000 – 2022)

Résumé: This study explores the state of food security in Algeria by analyzing the food security gap and identifying its main determinants. A multiple linear regression model was employed to examine the relationship between the food security gap and several explanatory variables, including total population, rural population, cultivated land area, agricultural labor force, and GDP per capita. The statistical analysis was conducted using the EViews 13 software. Relying on time series data from 2000 to 2022, the study highlights Algeria’s growing dependence on food imports due to insufficient domestic agricultural production. The econometric results show that population growth and GDP per capita are the most significant factors affecting the food security gap, while the other variables did not demonstrate statistically significant effects.
