فاعلية أنشطة تدريسية في تنمية أداء حل وضعية مشكل (مسألة) في الرياضيات في ضوء استراتجيات المتامعرفية
Résumé: The present study aims to verify the effectiveness of cognitive activities in mathematics (algebra) for fourth year primary school pupils. These activities are principally based on some meta-cognitive strategies intended to develop the pupils’ performance in dealing with, as well as, solving mathematical -algebraic- operations. For doing so a quasi-experimental study at “Chenine” primary school in Ouargla is conducted. Since it seems impossible to work on the entire population, we randomly selected 73 pupils making two independent samples; 37 pupils forming the experimental group and 36 pupils forming the control group. For the pre-testing phase, some teaching activities based on mathematics’ second year official programme including fractions, decimal numbers, duration and surface calculations, and operations solving are assigned. The activities are built upon some metacognitive strategies such as self-questioning, thinking aloud, and patterning. Subsequently, two tests are administered. The first is to test pupils’ awareness of solving a mathematical operation and the second is to test their competence in doing so. Data are analysed and interpreted statistically opting for SPSS programme, the 16th. version. The outcome reveals considerable differences in means of the two groups in favour of the experimental group. The results inferred from the statistics of the experiment carried out at “Chenine” primary school in Ouargla proved the effectiveness of the activities involved in the treatment hence confirming our hypothesis and coming up with the following recommendations: Conducting further studies for promoting teaching by adopting strategies for reinforcing thinking and reflecting. Conducting further studies in other subjects, else than mathematics, for fostering metacognitive thinking. Suggesting programmes specifically to prepare instructors for developing their learners’ thinking and reflecting during learning
