Algeria's Relationship With The European Union In Light Of The Euro-mediterranean Partnership

Résumé: Relations between Algeria and the European Union (EU) are based on the association agreement ( AA) signed as part of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership in 2002 and entered into force in 2005. Since gaining independence, and being a gateway to Africa , Algeria took profit from all customs preferences in the EEC until the beginning of the 1970s, some European member states, as Italy, decided to stop granting such privileged status to Algerian agricultural goods, making Algeria in 1972 starting negotiations with the European Community within the framework of the ECC’s global Mediterranean policy. The cooperation agreement was supported by financial protocols and renewed every five years. This article will try to analyze the association agreement between the two parties in terms of politics, the economy, trade, technical and financial cooperation and humanitarian aid.
