The Sino-taiwanese Conflict: Background And Stakes

Résumé: The Sino-Taiwanese war is one of the major contemporary geopolitical conflicts that dates back to the Chinese civil war, which ended with the triumph of communismandthe retreat of the Kuomintang party to Taiwan. Since then, Chinese efforts to restore the island were met with Taipei’s determination to achieve independence. The issue of Taiwan has significant geopolitical and economic stakes for both China and the United States, as China’s control over Taiwan would increase its regional influence. Therefore, China seeks by all means to recover Taiwan, which results in raising fears of war in the Taiwan Strait. يعد الصراع الصيني التايواني أحد الصراعات الجيوسياسية الهامة في عصرنا الحالي، و تعود جذوره إلى الحرب الاهلية الصينية التي انتهت بانتصار الشيوعية و تأسيس جمهورية الصين الشعبية، و انسحاب حزب الكومينتانغ الي تايوان،و منذ ذلك الحين تسعى الصين إلى استرجاع هذه الجزيرة، بينما تصر السلطات التايوانية على الاستقلال ، وتعتبر القضية التايوانية ذات رهانات اقتصادية و جيوسياسية مهمة لكلا من الصين و الولايات المتحدة الامريكية، فسيطرة الصين على تايوان سيعزز من نفوذها الإقليمي ، لذلك تسعى الصين بكل الطرق سواء كانت سلمية أو عسكرية لاسترجاع تايوان، ومن ثمة زادت المخاوف من نشوب حرب في مضيق تايوان .
