Prudential Regulation’s Effect On Financial And Banking Stability: Empirical Study On The Algerian Banks

Résumé: This research aims to investigate the effects of prudential regulation and authority pressure on banks’ and financial stability proxied by the z-score index. Running many panel data estimation techniques, we used a sample of 10 banks operating in the Algerian financial system over the period 2010-2020. Using variables such banking profitability; capital solvency; size and liquidity of banks; we obtained evidence that prudential regulations for Algerian banks can stabilize financial system. We find also that bank profitability has a significant impact. Empirical results conclude the index of solvency is not significant. Size and Liquidity of banks are both influencing financial stability negatively. Many empirical studies had the same findings. This study highlights importance of prudential measures taken by the authority of banks such reserve requirements; capital solvency and reforms in the banking system.
