Résumé: This work aims to study the secondary metabolites and to assess the antioxidant activity of the aqueous and methanolic extract of Mentha spicata and Mentha longifolia, from of the family Lamiaceae. The highest yields were recorded in the aqueous extracts of M. longifolia, M. spicata. with a value of (14.2 - 10.06 %) respectively. The moisture content of M. longifolia was recorded with a value of 56.7% and a value of 51.91% for M. spicata, and the primary chemical detection revealed the presence of most of the secondary metabolites. The largest values of polyphenols were for methanolic extracts of M. longifolia and M. spicata in the rate of (11.37 ±0.307 - 6.073 ±0.0935) AGE / g MS mg respectively. The same extracts also recorded the highest values of flavonoids in (2.899±0.242 - 1.605±0.11) mg QE/g MS of the M. spicata then M .longifolia. The highest value of tannins was estimated for methanolic extracts as well as (0.166±0.016 - 0.152±0.015) mg CA E/g MS for M. longifolia and M.spicata is in order. The methanolic extracts showed the greatest efficacy in inhibiting the free radicals of DPPH * as (IC50) of M. longifolia and M. spicata were estimated to be (17.033 ± 2.003 - 36.867 ± 1.88) μg / ml, respectively.
