Translating Euphemistic Language In Climate Change Reports: The Case Of English- Arabic Translation

Résumé: : The current study delves into climate communication, with a focus on English-Arabic translation. It examines the role of euphemisms in translating English climate change reports into Arabic and their impact on communication and perception. Climate-related terms can be both a bridge and a barrier to conveying environmental concerns. The research rigorously assesses the effects of euphemistic translations versus direct ones, covering positive framing, simplification, urgency mitigation, greenwashing, and tonal softening. The choice of translation significantly influences how individuals from diverse backgrounds comprehend climate-related information. In conclusion, the study offers essential recommendations, highlighting the significance of cultural sensitivity and linguistic clarity. For effective climate communication, it discourages overly literal translations, advocates for tailored messaging, and emphasises ethical communication practices. تجمع الدراسة الحالية بين الترجمة و التواصل البيئي و تركز على دراسة ترجمة التقارير التي تتناول قضية تغير المناخ مع النظر في دراسة أسلوب التلطف في التعبير في الترجمة من الإنجليزية إلى العربية و تهدف الى استكشاف تأثير التلطف في التعبير على التواصل والإدراك انطلاقا من أنه يمكن للمصطلحات المتعلقة بالتغير المناخي أن تكون جسرا او حاجزا أمام نقل القضايا البيئية و لأن اختيار الترجمة يؤثر بشكل كبير على كيفية فهم الأفراد من خلفيات متنوعة للمفاهيم المتعلقة بالمناخ فالدراسة تقيم بدقة تأثير الترجمات التلطيفية مقابل الترجمات المباشرة حيث أن الترجمات التلطيفية تهدف الى تحقيق التصوير الإيجابي ، والتبسيط ، وتخفيف الطوارئ ، وكذلك تليين النبرة ، في الختام ، تقدم الدراسة توصيات أساسية مشددة على أهمية الحساسية الثقافية والوضوح اللغوي الفعال تحقيقا لتواصل البيئي و تنصح بعدم اللجوء إلى ترجمات حرفية مفرطة، وتؤيد الرسائل المخصصة، وتؤكد على ممارسات الاتصال الأخلاقي
